You are invited to participate in a continuing conversation on disabled professionals in the workplace.
Topic: Mentors: a help or a harm? Third-party advocates in the development of a person’s career.
The value of having people who can act as an advisor/guide/advocate for persons as they travel their career journey is well documented. At the same time, disabled professionals are encouraged to demonstrate their ability to manage their career development independently. The line which defines the level of advocacy mentors provide in the mentor/protégé relationship can be ambiguous. This conversation will focus on the role of mentors and the line between independent and dependent career development.
