July 7 Roundtable Conversation by and for PWDs

On Tuesday, July 9 a new conversation will start in Milwaukee. The roundtable conversation will be conducted by and for persons with disabilities (PWDs) who are interested in becoming more actively engaged in the use of their skills and abilities in community and economic life.

When:        Tuesday, July 9, 2013 from 10:30 AM – 11:30 AM

Where:    Troup Café, 3430 W Wisconsin Ave

Topics for discussion:

  • Who is around the table?
  • What are the gifts we have to share?
  • What does a meaningful life look like?
  • Other topics?

Q: Who should attend?

A: People who are thought as having a disability and also believe they have skills and abilities they could use to benefit their community and themselves.

Assumptions:

  • We all have unique skills and abilities.
  • We are most creative and productive when we are engaged in the things we are passionate about.
  • We want to be engaged in productive activities, even if they do not include financial reward.
  • As people with disabilities we would rather: be interdependent than dependant; do with others than have done for us; find justice rather than receive charity.

Notes:

  • This conversation will be facilitated by Dan Lococo. Dan brings over 20 years of experience facilitating a variety of groups on such topics as marriage and family, race, religion, disability, and Servant-Leadership.
  • Dan also happens to be a person with a visual disability.
  • This is a “first person” conversation. All participants are asked to talk for themselves and about themselves. Advocates for persons with disabilities, who do not have a disability themselves, will not find this group to be a good fit.
  • Troup Cafe is located at the Northeast corner of Wisconsin Avenue and 35th Street. Troup Café is accessible on public transportation from the #10, #30, and #35 buses. Parking is available along the West (35th Street) side of the building or in the Walgreens parking lot across the street (West of the building).
  • Troup Café is a social enterprise intended to provide training opportunities for veterans interested in the food service industry. Food and beverages will be available for purchase from their beverage and lunch menu.

If you are planning to attend, please let Dan Lococo know so he will know how many people to expect. If you have any questions about getting to Troup Café, please give him a call and he will do what he can to answer your questions. Dan Lococo Barrier Knocker Downer
