The Mainstreaming on Main Street (MoMS) Connector’s Table taking place on April 18th will focus on collaborative networking. It is an exploration rather than a destination.
We see division of labor all around us. We’re not at all surprised to learn that the person who is great at flower arrangements isn’t so good at flying a commercial airplane. Some people are better at: cooking, or not; plumbing, or not; dentistry, or not; etc. Similarly, some people are good at: walking, or not; hearing, or not; social interaction, or not. Regardless of our abilities, or not, we weave our own support networks based on the gifts we have to share.
This MoMS Connectors Table will explore the importance and challenges of forming collaborative networks among people with and without disabilities. The answer is fairly obvious: just recognize that we are each of us broken and yet, we are all whole persons. The hard question: what does that recognition look like?
This is a conversation and an exploration. You are invited to participate by sharing your own, unique, experiences.
To participate, sign up at: http://meetu.ps/38Bk20
If you know of others who might be interested in this roundtable conversation, please let them know.
All roundtables are open to everyone. As a first-person conversation, all participants are asked to speak on behalf of themselves, from their own experiences. An underlying tenet of the roundtables is “We are each of us broken, and yet, we are all whole persons.”
Recent conversations have included: models of disability; Microaggression and marginalization; discrimination and disability rights; disclosing/coming out as having a disability; fixing, helping, or serving. The final Connectors Table in this series, on May 16, will focus on where we go from here.
